Some of us have our favorite pair of underwear when we go out. They might be your favorite color or you just like the way they make your butt look. You might consider them “lucky” even. I tend to buy underwear on a monthly basis just because I love underwear. I like to buy some that are fun with bright colors, or funny animals. Sometimes I’ll find a pair that don’t fit right. And my butt crack eats the underwear and I’m stuck in wedgie town. Mind you my rear isn’t the most Cuban thing about me. Two years ago, when I first designed the LBP I gave samples to my friends. I needed to know thier honest opinion before I walked into a store and tried to sell them. What if they didn’t fit right? What if the sizes I made were off? Were women with larger butts going to purchase my product? The sampling process can take forever. With lingerie it’s much more difficult to perfect a fit than making something cute with a bow. I have a stash of about 15 crooked underwear.
I can remember the first thing my best friend told me. She has a wedgie problem. She said they fit good and she thought they were cute. Then I asked her if she got any wedgies. She had a surprised look on her face and said, “Wow, I don’t remember having a wedgie the whole night”. Thats what I call the Little Black Panty experience. I wear the LBP at least 5 times a week. Who am I to talk if I’m the one trying to sell it to you? The black soft mesh on your tushy feels great and hugs your bottom. The LBP is lined with jersey knit (soft T-shirt material) that breathes well. A few days ago I met with a bride and she bought a set of the Little Black Panty while at my home studio. I mentioned to her that they don’t cause wedgies. I asked that she follow up with me about her LBP experience. Two days later, I got a text and it read “No Wedgies”. I wanted her to tell me more! What she was doing, what she was wearing it with … etc? I told her to leave out the juicy details. I have a vivid imagination and I didn’t want to go there. She is a physical therapist at a doctor’s office. She wore them to work and “felt comfortable and sexy”.
I was extremely happy and proud. All of my products are handmade. My designs are not arts and crafts projects. Over the past 6 years the LBP has developed over time with trial and error with advice even coming from buyers. A new thong design has been created. Not everyone was a fan of the T-back, so I designed a new thong. Ask and you shall receive ladies. Stitches have changed, patterns have been altered … 1/2 inch here, a 1/3 there, new elastics, checking how the elastics stretch so that it does’t create a muffin top. Its all math, geometry if you will. I can’t trademark that I have wedgie-proof underwear. My LBP hasn’t been on 1,000,000 butts for me to take that claim to fame. If you have a Little Black Panty, I would love to hear your thoughts. Maybe I can learn more from my customers? I am here to make you feel amazingly sexy, and I’d be happy to do it the best I can.
Recently, an opportunity came to me to expand the Little Black Panty … in colors. Taking what I have created as the “Little Black Panty ” and being able to broaden my horizons is an amazing feeling. This is new territory for Priscilla Jade Lingerie. I want to build a brand that is just as reputable as the other lingerie brands and still be unique. Hold my own, you know what I mean? So my assistant and I have started the “Panty Project”. It does not have an official name yet but I am sure we will come up with something. We approached the project by providing the buyers color schemes and lace swatches.

Buyers now have the choice to pick and choose the colors they want to sell. The same fit and sexiness, specifically designed to make you feel like the you, you want to be (if I don’t give Henry Jimenez the credit for that, I’ll never hear the end of it). The inspiration for the “Panty Project” is transitional for all seasons giving the option to mix and match colors for the lace and the actual panty. The buyer has creative input. We have been working closely with HUSH Boutique which will be opening up in Coral Gables, FL. The “Panty Project” will make its debut at the Grand Opening in just a few weeks! I am so excited and I hope the line does well. These exclusive panties/undies are available to all boutiques. They know thier customers and I feel that I will learn a lot from this experience.
On a side note, I will be jet-setting to New York City over the weekend for an amazing photoshoot. The latest samples for the Spring/Summer 2012 and the NOIR Collection will be shot for a new PJL Ad campaign. It’s been a 5 month project in the making. I can’t say anymore! You will have to just wait and see! Wish me luck!
Hi Priscilla Jade,
I love learning all about the development process. Do you have any stockists in Ontario, Canada yet?
Cheers,
Maggie
